Financial Therapy Association Conference 2024
I recently returned from the FTA's annual conference. This year's conference was in San Diego, a wonderful location. It's my second time attending this conference live, and I learn more here than at any other event I attend. I tweeted from most of the sessions I attended - those tweets are compiled below.
Excited to see #FTAC24 kick off. I missed 2023, but the 2022 conference included the most learning I have ever experienced in one conference. Ashley Agnew, FTA pres, kicks it off. @FinTherapyAssoc pic.twitter.com/8WtrJooRf9

Conf chair @_natashaknox_ predicts that the sessions we see here are predictive of where the industry is going, and I agree. @FinTherapyAssoc #FTAC2024 pic.twitter.com/88kqZpmuUj

#FTAC2024 ‘s ice breaker game was great. Got people off their chairs, moving around, and connecting. @FinTherapyAssoc pic.twitter.com/oDk20PtJlU

A good chunk of our time at this conference will be spent on this very detailed, very complex case study. The case revolves around a couple who could get a gift from a parent, but only if they sign a prenup. #FTAC2024 @FinTherapyAssoc pic.twitter.com/N3rAHEhnld

Ed Coambs helps with answers to some of the case study questions.

This podcast features two of the folks at the table, and helped me figure out my distaste for @DaveRamsey
My table for the case studies had some incredible people!

-Bruce Ross, prof at Kentucky
-Jerry Inglet, fp from Buffalo
-@RickKahler , fin therapy pioneer
-Kerry Keihn, fp from North Carolina

The weather wasn’t amazing, but we ended the day with an outdoor reception. Lots of great conversation. I learned a bit about the supervision requirements for new therapists and we discussed why there is no equivalent in financial planning. #FTAC2024@FinTherapyAssoc pic.twitter.com/isB6VTjmYk

Started the day with the second set of questions from the case study. I didn’t get a photo of my table, but they were incredible. Strong therapy cred. #FTAC2024@FinTherapyAssoc pic.twitter.com/hyctMD2OW3

We often think about traumas as big T events, but small T traumas can have serious adverse impacts on financial outcomes. pic.twitter.com/BFGB0aYnPD

One of the challenges at any good conference is choosing the best breakout, and this conference is no different. I think I lucked out here, listening to @AlexMelkumian and @RahkimSabree talk about financial aspects of cultural diversity. @FinTherapyAssoc #FTAC2024 pic.twitter.com/3KIkGCCKGg

John Lee and Amelia Vlashi (Canadians at a US conference!) continue the theme of our last breakout session, discussing various cultural impacts on big ticket spends. #FTAC2024@FinTherapyAssoc pic.twitter.com/h26NSxGFB2

@advicesticks was the keynote. Fantastic as always. Moira’s message boils down to:

-you’re an advice giver
-you give advice
-your client doesn’t implement
-there is something you could have done differently to make implementation happen@FinTherapyAssoc #FTAC2024 pic.twitter.com/UJilzR1s1A
I'm back and settled after attending 2/3 of the @FinTherapyAssoc #FTAC2024 I had to miss Day 3 on account of a family wedding (which was pretty great, btw.)
